Sometimes we get so optimistic about our time that we avoid to get started immediately. We don’t get started until the deadline comes near. Even if we are working, we stop working either checking what’s new on social media or immediately responding to unnecessary social media notification. When the deadline comes near we start working that results in poor quality of work. This situation is called procrastination. Procrastination is the act of delaying or postponing a task. In procrastination we feel relaxed until the deadline comes near. When the deadline comes near, the panic master comes and messes everything. To avoid procrastination, a technique is used called Pomodoro.

Pomodoro Technique:

It is a time management method developed by Francesco Crillo in the late 1980’s.

In this technique we use a timer to break down work into intervals usually 25 minutes. After we complete the task, we reward ourselves.

My Experience:

To practice Pomodoro technique I just started online course #SuperheroResume that stands out which has five different parts. I divided it into five parts as well. I didn’t set any timer as it can’t be done in 25 minutes. I said to myself that I will stop only if I finish part 1. Before I get started, I switched my phone to Do not disturb as I have the habit of immediately responding to notifications. So finally I got started. At first it was difficult to focus and work continuously without watching for notifications and see what’s new on Facebook and Instagram. I resisted and kept working and eventually I finished part 1 in about 90 minutes. It was a great achievement for me to work continuously for 90 minutes, so I rewarded myself to watch some cricket highlights on Youtube for 15 minutes. When I started again I was feeling fresh and more focused than before.

I followed this break by starting part 2 of the course. During this course I found myself more productive and competed it effectively followed by part 3 and part 4.

At the end of the course, it was a great feeling to practice such a useful technique to overcome procrastination and become more productive. I learned to overcome my procrastination to some extent and become consistent while working.

Moreover, before practicing this technique, I used to check social media every 5 to 10 minutes or whenever a notification popped up, I would immediately respond to that. But this time as my phone was on Do not disturb mode, I did not get disturbed even for a moment.

So if you want to overcome procrastination and become more productive, do practice Pomodoro technique keeping your phone on Do not disturb mode.

Regards!
